Are the Duas all authentic?

The daily Duas have all been taken from Hadith in the Sahih Al Sitah. Knowledgeable people of Deen have checked the Duas and Alhamdulillah as a result, the Duas are all authentic.

Why should my child learn the Daily Duas?

Duas are a means of remembering Allah. They are a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) who would read these Duas before every day acts like entering the house, before eating and going to sleep.

Encouraging your child to learn these Duas ensures that they will gain the reward for doing every day deeds. Instilling the habit of Dua in children at a young age, allows them to continue this good habit when older Inshaa Allah. I have often found that some children are taught Duas from schools or in Islamic classes. However, when asked to recite a certain Dua a few months down the line, some forget the Dua and then have to re-learn it. This is because despite them learning the Dua, they don’t remember to read it when doing certain actions. If you are a teacher, keeping parents updated on their weekly Dua will hopefully remind parents to gently encourage their children to read that week’s Dua on a regular basis. There are a number of different ways to keep parents updated which we will cover in a later blog Inshaa Allah.

For parents, an easy way to remind yourself and your children to read these Duas is to display them somewhere. There are lots of Dua stickers and displays available online. We will also be releasing Dua posters that you can download and display in your homes.

Benefits of reading Daily Duas

Reciting Duas on a regular and consistent basis will Insha Allah increase Taqwa in children and adults alike. Taqwa means an awareness of Allah and reading a simple Dua before an action will greatly help in achieving that goal. Also, on a day to day basis, actions like eating are done without fail. We can turn this act of eating into worship by beginning it with the remembrance of Allah.

What is inside the Daily Dua book?

daily-duas-for-kidsThe Dua book has all the important Duas for daily life. Each page has the title of the Dua, the Arabic, transliteration and the english meaning of the Dua. The bottom of the page has 2 stars which a child can colour in upon completion. Children can colour in the first star when they they have learnt the Arabic and they can colour in the second star when when they have learnt it’s meaning. The transliteration is for children who are able to read English but are not yet able to read in Arabic. Once the child knows both the Arabic and the English, the teacher or parent can sign and date it.

The Daily Duas book has been designed to keep your child engaged and enthusiastic when learning Duas. On each page, there is an accompanying activity. The activities on each page are a range of colouring pages, wordsearches, mazes, dot to dot, drawing and writing activities.

Tips on teaching Duas to children

Let me start with an example first and walk through the steps of teaching children duas. If I was to teach a child the Dua before eating for example, I will talk about manners and sunnahs of eating first. I will then explain that one sunnah of eating is to say the Dua before eating. After that, I will proceed to read the Dua in small parts and get the child to repeat.

I usually only give a few words at a time. Once they are secure in that, I will then give them the next part and get them to learn that. They need to learn the second bit and then be able to read it all from the start. I only every introduce the next section on a different day. For longer Duas, splitting them into further sections is helpful for those who struggle with memorisation. Even if it takes them a few weeks to be fully secure in their memorisation, give them the space to practise and familiarise themselves with it.

Dua list

dua-checklistWe have compiled a Dua list which is in the same order as the free Daily Duas book. This will help teachers in particluar, keep track of what their pupils know. Tick off the Dua as they memorise each one. The list aligns with the content page of the Daily Dua book. Children can colour in the stars and keep track of their own learning and progress.

Finally, instilling the habit of reading Duas from a young age will hopefully lead children to become lifelong Dua readers. My niece will often remind us to read the Dua before doing certain actions. A good habit to nurture, is for them to read it aloud before doing anything. This means that others around them will also remember to read their own Duas.
