Angels in Islam: an activity booklet for kids

For Quran and Islamic studies teachers and Muslim homeschoolers, teaching about angels provides a wonderful opportunity to delve into the spiritual realm that is pivotal to Islamic belief. At Primary Ilm, we’re excited to introduce our latest educational resource—an activity booklet dedicated to the topic of Angels in Islam.

Understanding Angels in Islam and Their Roles

In Islamic teachings, four angels stand out for their specific roles and responsibilities, each playing a unique part in the spiritual and physical world. Introducing these angels individually can help deepen students’ understanding and appreciation for how Islam views the unseen world.

Angels, or Malaikah, are significant figures in Islamic theology. They are created from light and they have various responsibilities. Their jobs include delivering revelations and recording the deeds of individuals.

1. Angel Jibrail (Gabriel):

Known as the Angel of Revelation, Jibrail’s primary role is to convey Allah’s messages to the prophets. He is known for bringing the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his presence is pivotal in many key events in Islamic history.

2. Angel Mikaeel:

Mikaeel is responsible for providing nourishment to bodies and souls. He is often associated with nature and the distribution of provisions, symbolizing Allah’s compassion and provision for His creation.

3. Angel Israfeel:

Israfeel is entrusted with the task of blowing the trumpet to mark the Day of Judgment. His role is crucial in signaling the end of the world and the commencement of the hereafter, representing the finality and justice of Allah.

4. Malik Al Mawt (The Angel of Death):

Malik Al Mawt’s duty is to take the souls of the deceased away from the earth. His presence ensures that the cycle of life and death ordained by Allah is carried out without error or delay.

By exploring the unique roles of these four angels, children can gain insights into the broader tapestry of Islamic belief about the afterlife and divine will. Each angel’s duty reflects attributes of Allah and emphasizes the order and precision within the universe, providing a comprehensive understanding that can foster a deeper connection to their faith.

Our new activity booklet aims to help children understand the roles and importance of angels through a series of interactive and creative exercises.

Tips for Teaching About Angels in Islam

Teaching about angels can inspire awe and curiosity in young minds. Here are some tips to make the lessons as engaging and effective as possible:

Start with Stories

Begin by sharing stories from the Qur’an and Hadith that mention angels. Discuss their interactions with prophets and their roles in the lives of believers. This narrative approach helps children visualize and better understand their unseen reality.

Incorporate Interactive Learning

Utilise the activity sheets from the booklet to reinforce the stories and facts discussed. For example, after discussing the story of Angel Jibrail delivering the revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), use the fill-in-the-blank sheet to review key details.

Engage with Crafts

The craft activity included in the booklet can be a great way to conclude the unit. It allows children to creatively express what they’ve learned and provides a tangible reminder of the lesson.

Regular Review

Use the mix and match and word search activities for periodic review sessions. These not only help in reinforcing the learned material but also make the review process enjoyable.
